Series: Don't Talk About That
Sexuality
October 16, 2016 | Michael Davis
So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply." Genesis 1:27-28 (NLT)
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.” Genesis 2:18 (NLT)
So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the Lord God took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the opening. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man. “At last!” the man exclaimed. “This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh!
She will be called ‘woman,’ because she was taken from ‘man.’” This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. Now the man and his wife were both naked, but they felt no shame. Genesis 2:21-25 (NLT)
"Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 (NLT)
God reveals His heart in order to change ours.
Our identity does not come from our sexuality!
“It is urgent that Christians be able to articulate a strong, rich, vibrant theology of the human body, which includes sex and sexuality, derived from Scripture.” Good Faith - David Kinnaman & Gabe Lyons
“A growing number of Americans believe their feelings should dictate their identity. Our identity is not found by looking within. God designed human identity to be found and fulfilled in a fixed point outside ourselves – in Him.” Good Faith by David Kinnaman & Gabe Lyons
“God created boundaries around pleasure not to keep us from enjoying life but to show us how to get the fullest experience. By pursuing pleasure on our terms, we actually experience less of it.” Redeeming Pleasure by Jeremy Jernigan
“If you were to always act in your greatest self-interest, you would always obey God.” In A Pit With A Lion On A Snowy Day by Mark Batterson
"Sex is powerfully pleasurable, but it cannot satisfy your heart. The touch of another person will stimulate your body and your heart, but it will never leave you fulfilled. Looking to creation to get what only the Creator can give you will always result in addiction of some kind. The thing you hoped would serve you pulls you into its service. What seemed like freedom ends up being bondage. Sex is not the problem; what you’ve asked of it is." Sex & Money by Paul Tripp
