Mark 1:14-15
Notes
Why did Jesus come?
Jesus came to say something very specific: the gospel of God.
What is the gospel?
He came to bring something very specific: the kingdom of God.
The kingdom of God is the sovereign reign of God over all the world and over his redeemed people.
Jesus came not only to say that the kingdom of God was at hand, but he came to bring the kingdom himself.
Jesus brought the kingdom of God in part, but not in whole.
Jesus was not merely concerned with educating people about the kingdom; he was more concerned with telling them how to enter the kingdom.
Jesus came to bring God’s kingdom which requires that we turn back and embrace him.
Who rules my life and to what kingdom do I submit?
Verses
{Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” Mark 1:14-15 ESV}{Get you up to a high mountain, O Zion, herald of good news; lift up your voice with strength, O Jerusalem, herald of good news...Behold, the Lord GOD comes with might, and his arm rules for him; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young. Isaiah 40:9-11 ESV}{All your works shall give thanks to you, O LORD, and all your saints shall bless you! They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom and tell of your power, to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations. Psalm 145:10-13 ESV}{And Jesus said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use for it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth, yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.” Mark 4:30-32 ESV}
