November 29, 2015 | Michael Davis
2 Timothy 3:16-17
Notes
A challenge as we finish the ASK series:
- Keep asking!
- Keep asking together!
Two foundational truths related to understanding and applying the Bible:
- All Scripture is from God about God so that we’d see God for our benefit and the benefit of those around us!
- God will give us His Wisdom so that we can understand His Word.
Tithing...
- the LORD’s & Levites Tithe (10%)
- the Festival Tithe (10%)
- the Charitable Tithe (3%)
Why tithing?
To remind the people of God that God owned ALL things, thus we are stewards of ALL things!
What does the NT have to say about money:
- The love of money leads to all sorts of evil, but generous giving helps you and other see a generous God.
- BE GENEROUS.
- Giving is gaining.
- God will provide for you so that you can help provide for others.
Women's role in ministry within the church:
- Our value, worth & significance does not stem from titles we have, but from the Image we bear.
- Creation and matters of character always transcends culture.
Verses
{“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV}{“Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.” 2 Peter 3:15-16 NIV}{“Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything.” 1 Chronicles 29:11-12 NLT}{“But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.” 1 Timothy 6:9-10 NLT}{“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." Matthew 6:24 NLT}{You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ Acts 20:35 NLT}{“You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.” 2 Corinthians 9:7-8 NLT}{“But since you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you — see that you also excel in this grace of giving.” 2 Corinthians 8:7 NLT}{“So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27 NLT}{“I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man” 1 Timothy 2:12 NLT}{“For Adam was formed first, then Eve…” 1 Timothy 2:13 NLT}{“So an elder must be a man whose life is above reproach. He must be faithful to his wife. He must exercise self-control, live wisely, and have a good reputation. He must enjoy having guests in his home, and he must be able to teach. He must not be a heavy drinker or be violent. He must be gentle, not quarrelsome, and not love money. He must manage his own family well, having children who respect and obey him. For if a man cannot manage his own household, how can he take care of God’s church?” 1 Timothy 3:2-5 NLT}{"And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do.” 1 Timothy 2:9-10 NLT}
Quotes
D.L. Moody : “The Bible was not given to increase our knowledge but to change our lives.” (Sermons); Randy Alcorn : “There’s a fundemental connection between our spiritual lives and how we think about and handle money. We may try to divorce our faith and our finances, but God sees them as inseperable." (The Treasure Principal); Tim Chester & Steve Timmis : “If I am a steward, then I own nothing. Everything I have is a gift, and it has been given to me to by God as a means of blessing others. This is the biblical doctrine of stewardship. We do not possess anything. Instead, what we have has been given by God to us so that we can use it to bless others.” (Everyday Church);

Questions are important, but even more important is where we go to get answers to the questions we ASK.
