34 days from now, America will go to the polls to elect the 47th President of the United States of America. It would be a massive understatement to say that our country enters yet another election year very divided… politically speaking. And this very real division that exists within our country is also felt within the church.
As best as I understand the heart of God from the Word of God, division within the family of God is NOT from God for us. And to be very clear, this does not mean that Christ-followers must agree on everything under the sun as it relates to the myriad of political issues placed before us.
Because of Jesus and the Gospel message, it’s VERY POSSIBLE to disagree on ‘political issues’ while still maintaining and promoting unity within the family of God. Not only do I believe this to be possible, but more importantly, I believe this honors and reflects the heart of God while also displaying to those around us a BETTER WAY.
So, the obvious question becomes… HOW DO WE GET THERE?
JUST LIKE JESUS
This Sunday, October 6th, GENESIS begins a 10-week journey through Galatians 5:16-23. Our focus will be on cultivating the character of Christ through what’s known as the ‘Fruits of the Spirit.’
Our aim over the next 10-weeks will not be to offer commentary on the Presidential Candidates and the positions and policies they hold.
Rather, our singular focus will simply be…
JUST LIKE JESUS.
Fruit of the Spirit as highlighted in Galatians 5 was not first and foremost displayed in Christ-followers but within Jesus. So, we will consider Galatians 5 through the lens of the Spirit’s work in Jesus so that Christ-followers today who have been given the Spirit, might live every moment of everyday….
