In this most recent series of DEVOTIONALS, we have been considering the following phrase…
EXAMPLES NOT EXCEPTIONS.
The heart behind this phrase is rather simple… the Bible is not a book of exceptions; stories of how God used to work amongst His people. NOT AT ALL… rather, the Bible is filled with countless EXAMPLES of who God is, what God is like and how God LOVES to move through people who are submitted and surrendered to His heart, His ways, and His Kingdom.
For today, I wanted us to consider one word…
FOCUS
If we’d experience and encounter ALL that God has for us on the daily, then these five letters are essential to that.
And here’s why I say that.
Far too often, we FOCUS on what we want God to be doing rather than what God IS doing. Maybe you can relate, but I often get so locked in on what I want the LORD to be doing that I am completely oblivious to the work that God is doing… ultimately, the work He is inviting me to be part of.
FOCUS MATTERS
Focus on the wrong thing and you’ll miss the main thing. And when I say, ‘main thing’, I simply mean, the GOD THING.
I want God to heal or help my marriage.
I want God to get me a husband or wife.
I want God to redeem my wayward son or daughter.
I want God to get me that promotion or a new job altogether.
I want God to send me more money so I can get out of this debt.
I want God to… ___________________________.
The list of things that we want God to do is often really long. And with the examples I’ve given above, none of those in and of themselves are wrong or sinful… not at all.
But here’s the thing, if that’s NOT what the LORD is wanting to do in this season of your life, well, you’ll miss what He’s wanting to do in your life because you’re FOCUSED on something else.
MY CONVICTION
I don’t throw around the word ‘conviction’ all that often but here is one thing I am 100% CONVICED of…
GOD WANTS YOU TO BE PART OF HIS WORK
God did not send His Son into the world in order to redeem you and I back into the family of God so that we could serve as spectators to His ongoing Kingdom work. No! God rescued and redeemed you and I so that we might partner with Him in His activity.
BEGIN PRAYING THIS
“LORD, where are you at work right now?”
And as way of encouragement, if you’d take a moment to pray that prayer, please also take a moment to LISTEN to what the LORD might say. And however, the LORD might answer that prayer, let your FOCUS remain there until the LORD makes clear it’s time to readjust your FOCUS to a new work He wants to do in and through your life.
