27 days from today, GENESIS will gather to CELEBRATE Jesus walking out of the grave: thus, conquering sin, Satan, and death for all time. Without Jesus walking out of the tomb, well, sin, Satan, and death would rule and reign in our lives.
So, when I say GENESIS will gather to ‘CELEBRATE’, here’s what I mean… GENESIS is hosting a MASSIVE PARTY to declare to Jesus just how grateful we are for ALL He accomplished in His life, death, and resurrection.
Now, in all reality, every Sunday when GENESIS gathers, it’s a celebration of Jesus’s life, death, and resurrection, but at Easter, there’s something uniquely powerful about a 1000+ Jesus followers gathering to give thanks to Jesus for His life-transforming and eternally shifting invitation to ‘Come, follow me.’
With 27 days to go until this most EPIC celebration, here’s the one question that I’ve been thinking about…
WHAT WAS JESUS DOING 27 DAYS PRIOR TO EASTER WEEKEND?
With 27 days to go, was Jesus isolating Himself from the large crowds in order to mentally, emotionally, and spiritually prepare Himself for walking Passion Road? Was He spending ‘extra’ time in prayer? Was Jesus making sure to have one final visit with His family and friends?
I realize this might seem like an odd question but in many ways, in order to prepare our hearts and souls for what we will celebrate 27 days from now, I want ALL of us to be doing what Jesus was doing prior to Easter weekend. If we’d truly experience and encounter ALL that will be our Easter celebration, what better way to prepare for that than doing all that Jesus did to prepare for that.
So… with 27 days to go, what was Jesus doing?
I’m guessing this will not surprise or shock you, but Jesus was doing exactly what Jesus had been doing since His baptism. And if you’re thinking to yourself, “Well Michael, what was Jesus doing for the better part of three years post His baptism?”, well, I can sum up what Jesus was doing in three words.
TEACHING
HEALING
SEEKING
Clearly, not the exhaustive list of things that Jesus was doing over three years of ministry, but as you read through the Gospel accounts, with 27 days to go, Jesus stayed the course of teaching, healing, and seeking.
In the coming 27 days, I will unpack in greater detail how what Jesus was doing, specifically with 27 days to go should (dare I say ‘must’) inform how you and I prepare for a beautiful celebration come Easter Sunday.
Looking forward to all we will see together in the coming 27 days… praying what happens in the next 27 days will make our ‘epic’ celebration even more EPIC!
